Adding in to our Thanksgiving festivities was a Baby Reveal Cake. My preggo cousin and her husband thought it would be a fun surprise to cut open a cake to reveal the sex of their baby. I loved the thought too, only I didn’t like keeping a secret from a bunch of nosey people for a week! I did a really good job though. .. jut ask.
For the cake, I decided to bake my mother’s Waldorf Astoria Red Velvet Cake recipe, since the sex of the baby was a girl. Why red color for the inside? It all comes down to their girl name, Ruby. Red Velvet Cake for Ruby. Perfect.
This cake is a tricky one to master, which meant I had to put my big girl pants on and forgo the process all by myself. I couldn’t call and ask questions, since that would give the secret away! I almost lost my sanity when I didn’t have enough frosting for the scalloped edging. Yet, I kept going and produced the <ok, I am going to brag now> prettiest cake I have ever made! I even drew and cut out the baby clothes line to top the cake. Craftey.
It was a beautiful moment to share and I am so happy that cute squishy baby girl Ruby will be joining our family. I may always bake a mini Red Velvet Cake for her future birthdays. Yes. Splendid idea.
