Back from the holidays and I feel rejuvenated and ready for 2015! I am not a fan of New Years Resolutions as I find they are easy to break. Instead, I think of positive things I can do in the next 12 months without a heavy self-guilt if I don’t make them happen.

No.1 – Be a better listener!

No.2 – Save monies!

Okay, so those kind of sound like resolutions. I call them positive life goals.

One thing I am not doing is staying away from the sweets. They don’t call me Bakey Katey for nothing. Sweets are always great in moderation and this Apple Gingerbread Bundt Cake over the holidays was divine. Now, what positive life goals did you make this year? I want to hear!

This post is just in time for the holidays, or the gluttonous time we eat too many sweats, mashed potatoes and pies. Hey, I am not complaining. Eating healthy is for lunch, right?

I woke up extra early on Sunday and felt the itch to bake. So by 8:15AM there was batter in the oven. I choose a Bourbon Oatmeal Brown Butter Creme Pie recipe that did not disappoint. And the browned butter filling is amazing. My leftover frosting went in the freezer for a treat down the road. Gluttony never ends.

Halloween is over and, poof! The retail world is already on holiday steroids. What better way to celebrate than to pick up fresh cranberries and bake a Pumpkin Cranberry Coffee Cake?

I’ll be cozy-ing up to a mug of coffee and this coffee cake in the mornings this week. Especially Wednesday when the high will be 19°F. Hello winter, goodbye fall.

It makes sense to start baking with pumpkin, I mean . . . it is October. What better way to jump in than this simple Pumpkin Snickerdoodle Cookie recipe? I had most all ingredients on hand and just needed a can of organic pumpkin puree. 23 minutes later, I was nomming on my fresh pumpkin snickerdoodle cookies while the local squirrels were nomming on my porch pumpkins. At least my cookies tasted better.

All things sweet are on my radar right now. Maybe it’s because the seasons are changing and my body is saying, ‘hey, stock up on some fat because it’s gonna get cold’. Oh wait . . . humans don’t do that. Right.

Baking definitely isn’t a way to steer clear of the sweets, but this Blueberry Crumble Cake from Smitten Kitchen looked just divine. And the one piece I ate was. The rest of the cake went to the bellies of my coworkers. Helping others hibernate with baked goods – yeah, that’s me!
